Tigers Sign Jose Valverde

Today, the Detroit Tigers have signed the best closer on the market in Jose Valverde. The deal is worth $14 million dollars over 2 years with a $9 million dollar option on a third year. The Tigers, who lost Fernando Rodney to free agency, have solidified their bullpen with Valverde.

On one hand, the Tigers have made a good improvment to one of their weekest areas, but when they traded Granderson and Jackson earlier this offseason, it appeared as if the Tigers had entered rebuilding mode. I am not sure where the Tigers are going, weither they are rebuilding or trying to make one final run at the postseason, but if they do decide to rebuild next offseason, Valverde could also be a valuable trade chip.
