Cardinals Sign Matt Holliday

Today, the biggest name on this year’s free agent market has just signed re-signed with the Cardinals. The deal is worth $120 million dollars over seven years, with a full no-trade claus. Holliday also has a claus were if he finishes in the top 10 in MVP voting, he will have an eight year worth $17 million dollars.

This is a huge win for the Cardinals, and as a Cubs fan, puts our Marlon Byrd signing to shame. ( not that it was very important to begin with) Now Prince Albert and Tony LaRussa can stop whining about not having another bat to protect Pujols in the lineup.

It will be interesting to see how this deal will look down the road when Holliday is much older, but as of right now, this is a good signing by the Cardinals and gives them so huge pop in their order. The Cardinals have probably the best 2-3-4 punch in the game now with Rasmus, Pujols, and Holliday, which will be an RBI-fest when they are facing a weak pitcher.
