Hot Stove Burning Tonight; Jonh Lackey and Hideki Matsui Sign

It is a busy night in the world of off-season baseball. Today Roy Hallday was dealt in a three team trade and now, John Lackey and Hideki Matsui have signed new contracts. Let’s start with Lackey.

John Lackey signed a 5-year $85 million dollar deal today. Lackey was hoping for a deal similair to A.J. Burnett, which he recieved. Lackey will add plenty of depth to one of the greatest rotations in the AL, pitching with guys like Josh Beckett and Tim Wakefield, as well as Dice-K and Clay Buchholz.

The other big signing today was Hideki Matsui, who signed a one-year deal worth $6.5 million. This will mark the end of the Vlad Guerrero era in LA. VLady had himself an outstanding tenure with the Angels, turning himself into one of the greatest sluggers in the game. Matsui will give the Angels a full-time DH, while adding some power and RBIs to the middle of their line-up.

Both of these signing were huge upgrades for both teams. With plenty of hot stove news, be sure to stay tuned to On Card Autos for all trade rumors and free agent signing updates.
