Diamonds in the Rough: Kendry Morales

Kendry Morales was called up by the Angels in 2006. In 57 games he had a .234 average, 5 home runs, and 22 RBI’s. Not really impressive right? Well in 07 and 08 he wasn’t much better. Then 2009 came and Kendry found himself playing everyday and things started to click. He finished the season with a .306 average, 355 OBP, a 569 SLG%, 34 home runs, and 108 RBI’s. At 26 years old he is justt entering his prime which means those numbers have a good chance of improving.

His cards are still relativly cheap. His bowman chrome auto can be had for around 20 dollars on ebay but some of his other cards like his 2006 topps ’52 auto are considerably cheaper.

So while some collectors are spending hundreds of dollars on a 16 year old who has yet to play a professional baseball game, I’ll be investing in a player who has already hit 30+ home runs and 100+ RBI’s all while having a batting average above .300 in only his first full season in the bigs. Who knows what this guy can do if he stays healthy.

Vladimir Guerrero anyone?
